history

Kaida Mazuri was born in the winter, one of the first sets of twins in her family. The daughter of Magnai and Dagasi Mazuri, of the Himaa tribe, she was one of four siblings. Her eldest brother, Arik, was thirteen summers old, while her sister Aiko, the eldest girl, was ten. Kaida’s twin, Alina, was only a few minutes older, a fact that would always mark their bond in ways Kaida would later struggle to understand. The Himaa tribe, known for their frequent births of twins, had always held a special place in the steppe. One in every three pregnancies in their tribe resulted in multiples, a rarity among many of the Xaela clans. Kaida and Alina were part of that rare breed, born into a family deeply connected to the traditions of their people. However, before they could grow up in the heart of the tribe, their family’s fate took a sudden, tragic turn.Magnai and Dagasi were traders, renowned across the Steppe for their finely crafted goods. Arik often joined his father for hunts and mining expeditions, while Dagasi kept the household running, tending to the younger children. But when Magnai received word of a business opportunity in Othard, he decided to take his family along, leaving the infant twins in the care of Nabe Himaa, a trusted family friend.Tragedy struck during their journey. Magnai, Dagasi, and Aiko were ambushed and killed by a band of Budugan hunters. They had sought to kidnap Arik, hoping to claim him as one of their own. But in the ensuing chaos, the young boy fought back, losing his life in the process. When word of their deaths reached Nabe, the woman was devastated, but she took on the responsibility of raising the twins as best she could.Weeks passed, and still, there was no sign of Magnai and his family. Nabe, growing concerned, held onto hope that the trip had simply gone awry, and that the family would return soon. But when she finally learned of their untimely demise, it became clear that the twins had no one left. With no family to support her, Nabe, heartbroken and overwhelmed, sought out a wandering trader—a man who promised her that he would take the girls to an orphanage, far from the horrors of their current life. Unbeknownst to Nabe, however, the trader had no intentions of delivering them to a safe haven. Instead, he sought to sell the girls in Radz-at-Han, a city far from their home, indifferent to their fate. Two days before the Starlight Festivities, Kagenaka and Kuni Sakiku—a compassionate Au Ra couple unable to have children of their own—encountered the trader. Their hearts broke at the sight of the frail, malnourished twins, their clothes ragged, their small bodies weak and sickly. Though they had hoped to adopt both, the trader’s greed made that impossible, doubling the price once he saw how desperate they were. Reluctantly, Kagenaka spent the last of his coin to secure one of the girls, and they decided to take Kaida, the more fragile of the two.Kaida was brought into the Sakiku home, where Kuni and Kagenaka cared for her as their own. They introduced her to their two children, Ayame and Keimei, and for a while, Kaida found solace in their warmth. The Sakikus made it clear to her that she was adopted, but they never mentioned her twin sister. They never spoke of the life she had left behind. That, they would later realize, was a mistake. As the years passed, Kaida grew strong. She played and laughed with her new siblings, and though there was always a sense of something missing, she was loved. Yet, when she was sixteen, another tragedy struck. Kuni, her adoptive mother, fell ill. Despite all efforts, Kuni passed away, leaving Ayame to assume the role of caretaker. Kaida, though still young, knew it was time for her to help as well.Kagenaka, though still grieving, poured his energy into teaching Kaida the family trade. He taught her to craft, to press coins, and to design statues and figurines, while also showing her the fine art of working with leather. By the time Kaida turned sixteen, she was running the family booth at the heart of Radz-at-Han’s marketplace, her hands deftly selling the wares her father had crafted, with her own growing skill evident in every piece. But when Kaida reached her eighteenth summer, the unexpected happened. One afternoon, as she worked at the stall, a woman approached her, a stranger who looked so much like Kaida that it felt like a mirror had cracked open before her. The woman was taller, with longer hair and a few piercings, but the resemblance was undeniable. This was no coincidence.“I am Alina,” the woman said softly. “Your twin sister.”At first, Kaida could hardly believe it. For years, she had believed herself to be the sole survivor of her biological family, and now, here her twin was—a living, breathing reminder of everything Kaida had never known. Alina explained that she had run away from her adoptive family on her eighteenth birthday, traveling across the Steppe to find the truth about her origins. It was in the Azim Steppe that she learned of her family’s brutal murder and the betrayal that had separated her and Kaida.Alina told her of Nabe Himaa, who had raised her briefly before discovering the deceit of the trader who had sold Kaida. Nabe had searched for her sister in Radz-at-Han, but by the time she found Kaida, it was too late. The twins were forever separated. The revelation shook Kaida to her core. She was overjoyed to have found her sister, but the discovery raised a thousand questions. Why had her adoptive parents never told her about her twin? Why had they kept the truth from her all these years? And how could they have allowed her to be sold in the first place?Kaida confronted Kagenaka in a fierce argument. Her voice, full of anger and hurt, echoed in the small home they had shared for so long. "Why did you keep this from me? Why didn’t you tell me the truth about my past?"The confrontation ended with Kaida leaving her adoptive home behind, her heart torn between the family who raised her and the sister she had only just found. Together, Kaida and Alina sought solace in a traveling dance troupe led by Kitsu Senbu, a Raen who had taken in outcasts and orphaned souls like them. Under Kitsu’s care, the sisters found a new family, a new rhythm to their lives. But their peace was fleeting. One fateful day, their camp was ambushed, and Kitsu was killed before their eyes. In an instant, the sisters were robbed once again of someone they loved, their world shattered. Alina, overcome with grief, fled into the wilderness, and Kaida—always the quieter one, the more grounded—followed, determined to find her sister and bring her back. For weeks, Kaida tracked Alina through the desert, always just a few steps behind. But despite her best efforts, Alina remained elusive. Kaida knew that her sister was lost in her grief, and she feared that she might never find her again.Back in Thavnair, Kaida’s adoptive father, Kagenaka, grew gravely ill. Unable to care for himself, he was tended to by Ayame, Keimei, and their families. When Kaida heard of his condition, she returned home, hoping to make peace with her past. She arrived just in time to say her final goodbyes, to forgive him for the years of secrets. Her heart heavy with loss, Kaida took over the family stall in Radz-at-Han, determined to honor the legacy of both her families. She has remained there ever since, continuing her work, but never stopping the search for Alina. The city, full of life and movement, has become a constant reminder of everything Kaida has both gained and lost. These days, when she’s not at the booth, Kaida can be found at Mehryde’s Tavern, drinking away the loneliness or dancing on the stage with her fellow performers. She dances to forget, dances to remember, and dances in the hope that someday, she might once again be reunited with the only family she has left.

hooks

-Common-☀︎ Kaida is skilled in crafting, particularly with coins, statues, and animal hides, due to her time working with her adoptive father. She takes pride in her craftsmanship and is always looking for ways to improve her skills. Other artisans or traders could ask for her expertise, commission her work, or challenge her to a craft-off. Alternatively, someone interested in the arts may seek her out to learn more.☀︎ Kaida runs the family’s trade stall in Radz-at-Han, a business that has been passed down for generations. The stall represents both a legacy of survival and a reminder of everything she’s lost. Fellow traders, competitors, or people from Kaida’s past could stop by the stall to do business or reminisce about the family’s previous presence in the city. Perhaps some characters have heard rumors or stories about the Mazuri family that intrigue Kaida.☀︎ Kaida is often seen performing in Radz-at-Han, either as a dancer or simply enjoying the taverns and festivals. Her dancing is a form of escape from her grief, and she puts a lot of emotion into her performances. Other performers could invite her to join their troupe, or someone with a similar passion for dancing might challenge her to a dance-off. Alternatively, Kaida’s dancing could serve as a way to bond with other characters through shared artistic expression.☀︎ Kaida spends a lot of time in Mehryde's Meyhane drinking run and eating ramen - her favorite past time. She has even performed there a handful of times on stage with the other dancers. Maybe you ran into her while she was enjoying herself, or maybe you have watched her perform.-Uncommon-☀︎ Kaida’s twin, Alina, is lost to her, and Kaida is still trying to find her. The bond they shared as infants has never truly gone away, and Kaida feels incomplete without her sister. Kaida could encounter someone who bears a striking resemblance to Alina, sparking a wave of emotions. Alternatively, anyone who has seen Alina or knows her whereabouts could hold the key to Kaida’s search.☀︎ Kaida’s twin sister, Alina, was separated from her at a young age. Kaida is haunted by the mystery of her sister’s fate and is constantly searching for any clues to her whereabouts. Anyone with knowledge of the Azim Steppe or the orphanage systems could have information on Kaida’s twin or could be a potential ally in her search.☀︎ Kaida was sold by a lying trader as a child. This trauma still haunts her, and she can be very cautious or distrusting of people who are involved in trade or business dealings. A character who’s also been deceived by the same trader could share their own experiences, or someone trying to win Kaida’s trust through business may have to prove they’re not like the man who sold her.☀︎ Kaida spent time with a traveling dance troupe led by Kitsu Senbu, learning and bonding with her sister, Alina. The troupe was ambushed, and Kitsu was killed, leaving Kaida with more grief and an unfulfilled need for belonging. Other members of Kitsu’s troupe or people from Radz-at-Han who knew Kitsu could connect with Kaida, either as a source of comfort or shared grief.-Note-If you are interested in writing with me as Kaida, and you have another hook that isn't listed, don't hesitate to run it by me. Lets talk about it. No ideas are bad ideas.

ooc information

Hi! Thanks for stopping taking time to read my carrd.I am relatively new to role playing in FFXIV, but have been writing for over a decade. I am 28 years old. I utilize multiple characters for role play (more about them below).I tend to be online in game later at night, but for the most part I role-play mostly in discord just due to time, work, and life balance and restrictions. I am still open to role-playing in game if time permits, and have been looking to get into more in-game role play, but will be easier to get in touch with on discord for the most part.As far as themes go, I am pretty open to exploration and themes. While I tend to stick to adventure and dynamic narrative role play, I am open to dark and mature role play as well. As a character, I do not seek erotic role play, nor will I participate in erotic themes with others.I am open to utilizing dice rolls in role play.I'm sure it does not have to be said, but I am not my character, and actions and feelings that my character(s) has/have should not be seen as or confused with my own actions and feelings.
